Mother/Sister/Daughter/Cousin/Aunt/Grandma (MSDCAG) Weekend
My family has been called abnormally close, but it’s a title we’ve fought for and earned. One way we keep up the close connections is a yearly Mother/Sister/Daughter weekend. We’ve been going for six or seven years strong with no end in sight.
All the ladies on my mother’s side of the family gather together at someone’s house or a hotel (usually located close to a casino for the gamblers among us) for a weekend. We exchange white elephant gifts, go shopping, visit local museums, play card games, and imbibe a good deal of wine, all of which leads to much giggling. As the years have gone on, we’ve added new family members – this year we had 13 ladies. Ages ranged from 91 to 21 and the question of the weekend was when some of our younger family members would be able to join us for the yearly ritual.
I know we’re a bit odd, but we love each other and these weekends help to solidify our matriarchal bonds. Not every family could pull of a girls’ weekend, but I’d suggest trying it - if only to see your great grandma drunk.
