Facebook, just let it go. We have.

Facebook recently added something to their suggestions box on the righthand side of the page: "Reconnect with xxxxxx"

Stop! Do NOT click and reconnect with that person who has fallen out of your life. It's perfectly ok to lose touch with people from our (not-so distant) past. In fact, there's probably a very good reason you don't talk to them anymore. Either you actually talk in person, on the phone or through email or they just don't make the cut anymore. It's not that you actively stop liking them, but other people are just more important to you. And you know what? That's ok.

I know I really don't care about reconnecting with most of my friends from high school. We've all moved on, made new friends and will briefly catch up at reunions, just like people have done for hundreds of years.

So sorry, college biology lab partner, next door neighbor from childhood and 8th grade youth group crush. It's not you. It's me.

Facebook recently suggested that I "reconnect" with my grandmother. Yes, my grandmother is on Facebook. But when I talked to her on the actual phone last week, she mentioned how she can never seem to get onto Facebook. So it would be kind of cruel for me to leave her a message there that she'll never see. My point? Facebook is NOT the preferred way to keep in touch with someone you really, really care about either.

Agreed.

Funny story about this feature - someone I used to work with had a lovely experience with it. It gave her the recommendation to "Poke" our CEO. How appropriate.
