Thankfully, I found a wonderful, easy suggestion online: Wine charms. Wine charms are those little, individualized trinkets that attach around a wine glass stem to help people recognize their glass.
I made these in 10 minutes.
For me, I went to the craft store and found wire loops. They weren't pre-bent to clasp together, but I used needlenose pliers to bend the end into a hook. The website shows how you can make your own if you can't find loops.
I found two packets of charms in the bead section of the craft store - one of keys and one of locks. It's important to have different charms, otherwise it defeats the whole purpose. The website suggests adding beads, but I felt the charms were good enough on their own and I didn't want to overpower the charm.
All in all, the project cost me $9 for 10 charms. It was $3 for the packet of wire loops and $3 for each set of charms. I've looked on etsy.com for similar wine charms and a set of 6 for $10-20 goes for each.
It was easy; it was cheap; I don't feel like a grandma giving these away. A perfect homemade holiday.
