Save Money: Make Your Own Cookies

With a new baby in the family and saving cash where we can, I'm going back to the old fashioned method of baking my own cookies. I used to be a cookie baking machine, finding new recipes and adding my own flair when I could. I also enjoyed the house smelling like fresh goodness.

This picture is from last night's creation, Nutella cookies, care of Giada and the Food Network. It took approximately 10 minutes to combine everything and about 13 minutes of cooking time. Voila, fresh cookies for the week, coupled with knowing exactly what type of ingredients went into the baking.

Now, fresh baked cookies won't last as long as store bought goodies, but there are many pros to DIY Baking:

-Majority of cookies start off with basic ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs, butter. Keep these stocked at home and you are ready with a good base.

-Save cash

-Experiment with new concoctions

-Freeze what you don't eat in a given week

-Surprise co workers and friends with cookie gifts

Good idea! Instead of spending $2-$3 per cookie every day or every other day after lunch, I could just spend $4 on a roll of cookie dough from the store!
