Official Foursquare Day BadgeApril 16 marks the very first global social media holiday, Foursquare users can take part and earn the new brand new Foursquare Day badge.
What is Foursquare?
Here’s a brief explanation: Foursquare is a location-based social networking game [not the game we played in middle school, although we should bring that back!] where you receive points for broadcasting the places you visit throughout your day when you “check in” using the iPhone, Android, Blackberry application, foursquare.com or SMS. Basically you earn points when you check in, unlock virtual badges and can become the Mayor of a location. You can check in anywhere and create new locations—some places offer discounts and deals when you check in with them. Want to know more? Google it.

According to pcworld.com, Foursquare Day will be celebrated across the world in more than 100 major cities. Foursquare users who attend these special events will be offered a new badge for the occasion. As far as I can find, no one is really sure how to earn the badge but it is a general consensus that you have to check in at one of the participating venues during a designated time. Keep your eyes open for the local news and local Foursquare Day Fan Page on Facebook.
Foursquare Day started as a random idea and was retweeted into a revolution.
