Do You Wear a Slip?
The Wall Street Journal Wants to Know

SlipImage c/o the Wall Street Journal

Here we go, ladies. When the famed Wall Street Journal releases an article on the disappearance of women's slips, I wonder if the writer was bored, needed some peppy content, etc. Ok, the article was written in the 'Style' section of the Journal. Got it. The more I thought about it, I do agree with the whole sentiment that it continues to be more difficult to find a good ole' fashioned slip at the department store.

When I was a teenager, I lived in slips. Every wedding, church function or dress up affair that involved a skirt that required more material meant wearing a slip. I didn't mind them at all. I liked the extra layer of material between my rump and my thin layer of dress or skirt.

Jogging on the Lake Path this Summer?
Why Not Sign-Up for the Boobathon?

Chicago_running_path

What do IPods, warm weather, and the smell of the fresh Lake Michigan Water all have in common? Well, since you’ve read the title, you’re probably either guessing jogging or sharp objects. I would have guessed jogging, too, if I had just moved here. After all, in Chicago, Marathons are often advertised on buses, sidewalks, and billboards, while running teams are assembled at work, with challenges such as, ‘Hustle up the Hancock,’ to promote health and motivation. But, it is my third Summer in Chicago, yes, another year, another season, and, just that time of year for another kind of race. The Boobathon.

My Swimsuit Splurge:
Why I Went Nuts on One Bathing Suit

Update: It's 1:!5 in the morning, I look in the bag and realize that the suit is the WRONG size! The Macy's employee put the WRONG size in my bag....I had the size 8 on hold for 30 freakin' minutes, come back to BUY my suit and they had the size 14 on  hold instead! Unreal. I hope the 8 is still in stock or else I'm going to be ticked.

I head to Cancun in about a week. I've been looking for a timeless throw back suit that matches my funky style, but let's me be comfortable on the beach.  I saw the following red Swimsuit_2 vintage-esque Jantzen bathing suit and fell in love.  I was running errands around the city, found my suit and tried it on. I was in heaven - it fit like a glove, but...

It cost me $100.  I know, insane. $100 for a swimsuit? What! Here are my reasons why:

-it's made well
-it covers any over eating I may have done that day
-I look and FEEL great it in ( I just need the red lipstick and the big Jackie O glasses)
- I can lounge around all day without feeling naked
-it's got that unique look I've wanted for a long time
-I always thought I was meant to grow up in the 50s:)

and lastly...

This is the FIRST one piece bathing suit I've purchased in eons. EONS. I wanted to make sure it was just the right style for me.

(er, no, I don't look like that gal in the photo, exactly:) )

White Dresses and Your Under Garments:
You're Not at the Beach, Cover Up

I'm sitting at a local coffee shop minding my own computer business. My Powerbook was starting up, I settled into  my little alcove, took a sip of my coffee and saw a cute blonde stroll in. She had a cute white summer dress on, but it was the kind of dress you should wear on the beach - as a cover up.

I noticed a bra strap and thought, oh, she's got a bikini on. Not so much. This gal tried to bring back 'Sex and the City' trend that wasn't too cool to begin with.  The white bar underneath the white tank dress was clear as day on all fronts.  From there, the dress was so super thin, I could see the entire string thong that rest underneath the dress.

Ladies, white dresses ROCK, but don't forget about how sheer some of them can be.  When you buy white, make sure it's lined or that the material is thick enough that your entire Victoria's Secret isn't peeking out.  Remember, wear NUDE panties and bra under white, not white.

Longchamp Handbags
Classy,Efficient and Useful

LongchampI was at a meeting last night and ran into my friend, Jen. She was packing up her purse and I noticed it was a Longchamp bag, similar to the image on the left, but blue. I've been a fan of these bag for years. I don't own the brand just yet and I realized it's because  Longchamp limits where they sell their goods. Nordstrom carries them, along with the famous discount site, eBay.  You can also use NexTag to see a listing of who sells Longchamp at any given time.   Why do I love these bags so much?

Black Shirts and Nude Bras Don't Mix

Quick fashion tip for you...

If/when you wear a black shirt of any sort, don't wear a nude bra underneath.  How many time have you seen a picture taken of a group of gorgeous girls...and there is only that ONE gal that has a nude bra under the blouse.  The flash from the camera calls out the bra and makes for an unflattering photo.

There are also times when certain light brings out the fabric in a way that regular people will see the bra through your shirt.  Either way, wearing black will make it all blend in. I was getting dressed this morning and noticed the light hitting my top a certain way and the nude colored bra was poking thru the material.  I switched to black and voila - no peek-age.
