Affectionately referred to as “The Calumet Region”or “The Region,” Northwest Indiana is often looked at as a ghost town of the American Dream; without having a first hand experience, visitors to The Region often view the area as an industrialized wasteland. On the other hand, I, and most inhabitants and transplants alike, view The Region as a rich and vibrant Chicago suburb that is deep rooted in various ethnic families and traditions that span generations. 

Luckily for me, this is the place I’ve called home for just around twenty years. When I was younger, I was fairly indifferent to the area and what it had to offer to me. As an adult, however, I’ve grown to love the different cultural, geographical and social varieties that lend contribute to the makeup of this vast location I call home.
