Pittsburgh Favorites: Tourist Edition

Up until recently, I lived in Pittsburgh all my life. I've gotten the opportunity to play "Tour Guide" a few times and have come up with a mental itinerary of spots to showcase my city. Most people think of Pittsburgh as a dirty uncultured city, when in fact this is not true. There is plenty of history behind this city, as well as many fun things to do. These are just a few of the hotspots that I feel highlight a bit of everything that Pittsburgh has to offer:

The Duquesne or Monongahela Inclines- My personal preference is the Monongahela one, but either will get you to to the top of Mt. Washington and from there you get the best panoramic view of the skyline.

Point State Park-Pittsburgh is also known as the city of three rivers, and Point State Park is situated at the confluence of them. This is a great place to go in the summer to casually walk around, or read a good book while basking in the sun (with sunblock of course!). It's also home to some cool events such as the Pittsburgh Arts Festival and Three Rivers Regatta

Kennywood. So many of my memories, childhood and beyond, come from going here every summer. It boasts being a traditional theme park, and definitely lacks the cookie cutter feel that you get from other amusement parks. Even if you're a gal on a budget (all day passes are around $34), you can still go from 5pm until the park closes for only $19. That way, you bypass most of the lines and the heat, and you still can do almost everything you planned on during your visit.

The Warhol Museum. This museum not only showcases works of Warhol, but also other contemporary and pop culture art exhibits. If contemporary art isn't your thing, there are three other Carnegie Museums to check out.

No trip to Pittsburgh is complete without a trip to the Southside. Whether you're looking for shopping, entertainment or nightlife, this district has it all. At one end of East Carson Street you will find the funky, BoHo stores and restaurants. At the other, more upscale name brand shops and movie theaters. Any gal can find somewhere to shop, dine, and have a good time here no matter what her budget is.
